Big Bang, Blackpink, Winner, and Ikon, as well as actors like Cha Seung-won and Lee Sung-kyung, are all part of YG Entertainment, which just presented the finished design of their new offices in Seoul's Mapo neighborhood.

Designed by Dutch architectural practice UNStudio, the building has been eight years in the making. Construction first began in 2017, and was completed last year. The nine-storey building, with five additional floors underground, is located right beside the company’s previous headquarters.

The existing, well-known YG Building, which will continue to serve as a versatile practice and performance space for the artists, will be connected to the new headquarters by an internal bridge.

The company's influence on the Korean music business served as inspiration for the design team, which was led by main architect and UNStudio co-founder Ben van Berkel. Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) solar cells are built into the south-facing facade and on the roof to serve as a source of electrical power, and glass and aluminum panels curve around the building to create a protective shell that resembles a "urban speaker."

The interiors of the building carry on the futuristic motif with lots of white tones and fun geometric shapes. Contrasting sharply with the all-black interiors of the former headquarters is the room's brilliant lighting. The area has a lofty feel thanks to the wide open areas and high ceilings, and the glass roof lets in plenty of daylight during the day, filling the central atrium. Greenery that is blooming in planted areas gives the environment a sense of life.

To promote cooperation and interactions, conference spaces and work areas are built to resemble capsules and have full-glass windows. The goal is to create "the most uplifting and stimulating work atmosphere conceivable," according to the architects.

The new structure also features a two-story theater, seven sizable dance practice rooms, seven recording studios outfitted with cutting-edge technology, and 30 personal studios for the company's songwriters and musicians. The building's second story includes a sizable contemporary cafeteria, a characteristic that was well-liked and well-known in all of YG Entertainment's previous headquarters, and the basement floors have sizable fitness and recreation areas for the company's staff and performers.
